The Gospel of Expansion

Many of us who either: grew up in church, have been in church for a good part of our lives and/or are around church people often have heard the phrase “God’s gonna pour you out a blessing that you won’t have room enough to receive”. I heard this recently and decided to unpack it.

My first thought was that it doesn’t make sense for God to bless me with something that I do not have the capacity to receive…so why would God do that? Then it hit me that “God also never puts more on us than we can bear” without providing whatever additional we need to bear it. The good news is that, as I put these two church cliche’s together, if God has a blessing for us that we are not currently able to receive…then God will increase our territory such that we will be able to receive that which God has for us. Thus no blessings will be blocked due to not having enough room. What’s important here, though, is that we are always open and obedient in allowing the process of expansion to take place as God sees fit…then we shall reap all the blessings that God has for us.
