The Power of Now
So, last Sunday my pastor was speaking on “The Power of Now”, and so I thought I’d chime in on the conversation.
Now is the most powerful and important timeframe that exists. Not only is the “now” endowed with all the wisdom, strength and consciousness gained through all of our passed experiences, but it is also wrought with the opportunity and power to shape and define how our future progresses. For this reason, now is the most pivotal moment of any of our lives.
The truth is that all any of us have is now; the past is behind us never to be lived again, and the future lies ahead with its own plethora of unknowns. So it makes sense to make the most of what exists right in this moment…and to do it consciously. For the choices that we make in each of these now moments will determine how and when we reach and fulfill that which God has for each of us to do. Now is best described in this short poem, by Dr. Benjamin E. Mays:
“God’s Minute”
I’ve only just a minute,
Only sixty seconds in it.
Forced upon me, can’t refuse it,
Didn’t seek it, didn’t choose it,
But it’s up to me to use it.
I must suffer if I lose it,
Give an account if I abuse it,
Just a tiny little minute,
But eternity is in it.
